As its playful title suggests, ZelfsPot * is a collection of fun jokes and corny puns about LGBTQ** life. Sponsored by Roze 50+ Nederland, Regenboog Oldambt*** published my little book (the first I’ve written entirely in Dutch!) in October 2020 as a special surprise for the regular attendees of their events. Members received free copies of ZelfsPot to make up for having to miss out on all the corona-induced cancelled events.

Judging by the initial response on Facebook, recipients appreciated the gesture, finding ZelfsPot something light and funny to lift their spirits in the dark days of the pandemic.

* The title is in itself a pun. The word ‘zelfspot’ means self-parody, but ‘pot’ is also Dutch slang for lesbian. The subtitle spells out the pun: let’s have a good laugh at ourselves/about LGBTQ life.
** LGBTQ stands for people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender & queer.
